Pedrita
Design concept and furnituredesigned by Pedrita, manufactured in Portugal
For Rita João and Pedro Ferreira, the collection of objects designed for The Lisbonaire is also like that. They are fragments of objects and stories they met and liked or never knew but who ultimately " match up" with those who live in the city.
Using traditional construction methods, the function is assumed on the form and results in a line of objects apparently without formal connection or ready material, but in line with the preexistence of the apartments and able to connect to the activities of the invited graphic designers.
The designed items include lamps, side tables, sofa, bed, meal table and chair, desk, TV module and module for storage and hangers. The finishes range from eucalyptus wood and walnut, wenge wood stains tones, lacquered white and black, textured fabrics and applications in synthetic skin.
Rita João (b. 1978) and Pedro Ferreira (b. 1978) studied Architecture of Design at the Faculty of Architecture, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. As Erasmus students they went to TU Delft and Politecnico de Milano, respectively. In 2002 they went to Fabrica – the research and communication center of Benetton group. Rita and Pedro returned to Lisbon in 2005 and, under the name Pedrita, they have since developed multidisciplinary projects with national and international collaborators and clients, such as TAP Portugal, Ordem dos Arquitectos, Camper, EXD, Movélpartes/Sonae Indústria, Central de Cervejas/Água de Luso and Amop. In collaboration with other creative parties, they organize and promote two platforms for discussion of creative thinking: Freespeech, since June 2006 and Pecha Kucha Night Lisbon, since May 2007.
